Risk Assessment and MMV for CCS Projects
Workshop Overview
Risk assessment and MMV course is designed to address uncertainty in a CCS project. The focus for the course is subsurface risk. This course is based on practical field-based experiences in pilot design as well as current CCS large-scale projects.
When we assess long term storage of CO2 we need to think about: what are the potential pathways where CO2 can leak from and what are the limiting factors of a CCS project The MMV program should be a natural extension of the risk factors as well as the “known unknown” factors. The MMV program should have general principles as well as site specific considerations. We discuss data collection and data hierarchy as well. We review five large scale CCS projects and discuss what has worked and what hasn’t and why. Finally, we discuss analogs for risk factors.
