Integrated Reservoir Management
Workshop Overview
This course is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation in creating, running, and interpreting flow models of subsurface reservoirs. The building of simulation models depends heavily on various factors, including drive mechanisms, data availability, and reservoir architecture (geology) being modeled.
The course begins with a review of the types of geological data required and the level of detail needed. Following this, we analyze production data to start formulating a mental model for flow simulation. Data assembly sessions will guide you through grid generation, property upscaling, and the incorporation of rock-fluid data, such as PVT tables, relative permeability, and capillary pressure. We will then move on to well modeling techniques, covering everything from classic productivity index calculations to well equations. We never have enough data so this course will allow participants to separate the nice to have data from critical data and scale for critical data.
Simulation models evolve over the life of the reservoir. They can be classified based on the type of input data used, the reservoir drive mechanism, the reservoir architecture, and the specific objectives they are designed to address. We will discuss what type of data is most critical.
We will discuss history matching for waterfloods/water drive, gas cap drive, and solution gas drive. In addition, we will briefly discuss the special aspects of naturally fractured reservoirs, coning, and static modelling of hydraulic fracturing.
