Reservoir Engineering for Non-Reservoir Engineers
Workshop Overview
This course gives the non-reservoir engineer a better understanding of reservoir engineering practices and limitations. The course is designed to provide a good understanding of reservoir engineering processes, the required data, and the limitations on the engineers’ analysis and interpretations. It provides the required input to help you understand questions crucial to the reservoir engineer: How much oil & gas is there (accumulation)? How much can be recovered (reserves)? How fast can it be recovered (rate)?
Workshop Outline
Benefit of Attending this Workshop
By attending this course, participants will gain the knowledge
of:
- Introduction to petroleum reservoirs and distribution of reservoir properties: Structure, fluid contacts, water saturation and pressure
- Rock Properties: Porosity, permeability, wettability, capillary pressure, and relative permeability
- Fluid Properties: Phase behaviour of reservoir fluids; properties of gas, oil, and water; PVT Sampling; and PVT lab reports
- Evaluation and recovery of oil and gas reserves -classification of reserves, recovery factors, volumetrics of oil and gas reservoirs, addressing uncertainty using probabilistic methods, reserve booking practices
- Material Balance Methods: Oil reservoir material balance, gas material balance, volumetric, rock compaction, water drive, and compartmentalized reservoirs
- Fluid flow and well performance: Radial and linear flow, transient, pseudo steady state, steady state flow regimes, productivity of vertical and horizontal wells
- Aquifer influx
- Immiscible Displacement: Fluid displacement process, mobility ratio, fractional flow, Buckley Leverett
- Coning: Description of process, critical rates, using horizontal wells
- Reservoir Types and Drive Mechanisms: gas reservoirs -volumetric, water drive and rock compaction drive; Oil reservoirs – solution gas drive, water drive, water flood, gas cap expansion, combination drive, naturally fractured and critical reservoir fluid reservoirs
- Introduction to pressure transient analysis (well testing)
- Reservoir Simulation: Why simulate, type of simulators, workflow for simulation model
- Field Development Planning: Determining drive mechanisms,
Who Should Attend to This Workshop
Engineers and geoscientists now working in an asset environment where they need to better understand the practices and limitations of the methods and procedures employed by the reservoir engineers with whom they work. Participants should have a few years of technical experience in the upstream petroleum industry.
