Life Extension Assessment and Management for Oil & Gas Ageing Assets
Workshop Overview
This course delivers life extension assessment and ageing assets’ management approaches for practicing engineers, project leaders/managers, etc., working in offshore sector asset intensive organizations. The course starts explaining how structural degradation takes place over the age, failure case studies, role of welded joints and welding (topside and subsea) approaches. The methodologies to determine the state and condition of an ageing platform (survey, inspection, and monitoring) are discussed. Furthermore, the criteria for evaluating the significance of detected anomalies and damage are explained in relation to regulatory requirements, codes, and standards. The evaluation of the static and fatigue strength of ageing degraded platforms is explained. The risk and reliability approaches to evaluate if platforms are safe for the ‘intended purpose’ are presented. The approaches for strengthening, modification, and repair are discussed, and recommendation
decisions’ prioritization approaches are illustrated using illustrative case studies. The necessity for repairing to minimize the risk of potential failures (probabilistic approaches) and increase the reliability of ageing assets (structures, topside, and sub-sea) are discussed.
