ASME B31.3: Process Piping Design, Construction, Installation, Operation, and Maintenance
Workshop Overview
This intense, comprehensive and practical training solution studies all aspects of facility piping systems with particular focus on the practical aspects of design, construction, installation, operation and repair of piping systems for oil and gas facilities. A proper understanding and execution of each of the above is essential in assuring that facility piping systems operate at maximum efficiency and experiences minimal problems.
Subjects covered include applicable industry codes (API, ISO, ASME B31.3, etc.), standards and recommended practices; choosing a line size and wall thickness; pipe manufacturing and material selection; pipe, valve and fittings specifications; piping design, pressure ratings and determining “spec” breaks; layout and spacing; system design considerations; inspection and testing; and corrosion control.
Workshop Outline
Benefit of Attending this Workshop
- Use physical characteristics of fluids to design and operate facility piping and pipeline systems and Apply mechanical and physical principles of all phases of facility piping and pipeline system design, construction and operation
- Determine phase states and their impact on the operating conditions of facility piping and pipeline systems as well as pressure drop, wall thickness and optimize line size for gas, liquid and two-phase lines
- Apply international piping design codes / standards such as ISO, API, and ASME (B31.3, B31.4, B31.8)
- Select the appropriate pressure-temperature ratings for pipe flanges, valves and fittings, as well as Select and Arrange pumps and compressors appropriate for the application
- Analyze piping systems so as to determine “safe” pressure “spec” breaks, and design new and existing piping systems for expansion, supports, pumping, compression, manifolds, pigging and insulation requirements
- Identify and Solve problems in the operation of complex facility piping and pipeline systems, and similarities and differences of onshore and offshore pipeline systems
- Specify proper components for process and utility applications as well as design, specify, inspect and test facility piping and pipeline systems as well as Specify and design a pipeline pigging system as well as detect, monitor and control pipeline corrosion
- Identify and Apply fluid characteristics and behavior in the design and operations of onshore and offshore pipeline systems, as well as onshore and offshore safety and environmental practices and their effect of facility piping and pipeline design, construction and operations
- Assess the physical behavior of the key flow assurance and integrity challenges such as corrosion, hydrate formation, transient behavior and wax deposition
- Size vent, relief and flare systems and Evaluate the effectiveness of pigging operations and leak detection systems
- Identify special design and construction challenges on onshore and offshore facility piping and pipeline systems, the principle interfaces and potential interrelationships of pipeline facilities such as pump/compressor stations and terminals, platforms, subsea wellheads and SPM’s on design, construction and operations of onshore and offshore facility piping and pipeline systems
